Dodgers Sign Shohei Ohtani to Ten Year $700 Million Dollar Deal

Shohei Ohtani is moving just 31 miles for his next work address, but also into another stratosphere.
The most closely followed free agency in MLB history concluded Saturday when the two-way star reached agreement with the Dodgers on a 10-year contract worth a record $700 million.
Ohtani announced his decision in a statement.
“To all the fans and everyone involved in the baseball world, I apologize for taking so long to come to a decision,” Ohtani said. “I have decided to choose the Dodgers as my next team.”

Ohtani’s deal includes “unprecedented” deferrals — including the majority of his salary, according to sources — allowing the Dodgers the financial flexibility for other moves.
Ohtani, 29, had no shortage of suitors, including at one point the Mets.
Ohtani, with the Angels, won his second American League MVP award last season after posting a .304/.412/.654 slash line with 44 homers and 95 RBIs in 135 games.

Atlanta Falcons Win Defensive Slugfest vs. New York Jets

The Falcons are in first place in the NFC West. They beat a dismal Jets team in a game with little offense.
Desmond Ridder threw a touchdown in the first half and the Atlanta Falcons didn’t allow the New York Jets into the end zone at all during a 13-8 win at MetLife Stadium. The victory moves the Falcons to 6-6 on the season and pushes them ahead of the Saints in the division thanks to New Orleans’ loss to the Lions on Sunday.

The Jets tried to spark something offensively by replacing Tim Boyle with Trevor Siemian in the fourth quarter, but he was 5-of-13 for 66 yards and the game ended on a sack by Arnold Ebiketie on a fourth down with less than a minute to play.
With the Jets now 4-8, thoughts of an Aaron Rodgers return are likely all but extinguished if being alive in the playoff race is a true consideration.

The Falcons have a lot more to play with, although they’re going to need better offensive performances to finish the job. Ridder was 11-of-26 for 101 yards outside of a 20-yard touchdown to tight end MyCole Pruitt, they ran for 91 yards on 34 attempts and the Falcons punted on five of six second half possessions before kneeling out the clock.

Giants Over Patriots 10-7

The New York Giants beat the New England Patriots 10-7 on Sunday. The Giants rise to 4-8 and are officially on a winning streak.

Patriots’ placekicker Chad Ryland missed a 35-yard field goal attempt with :06 remaining that wold have forced overtime.
It was a cold, rainy afternoon in East Rutherford N.J., and a far cry from the classic games between the Giants and Patriots we all remember. This was a plodding and often ugly affair that could generously be called a “defensive struggle” that ultimately ended on a missed field goal as time expired.

In such a game it often comes down to which team makes the most mistakes, and in this case that was definitely the Patriots.
Giants QB Tommy DeVito was 17 0f 25 for 191 yards. Saquon Barkley had 12 carries for 46 yards.
Mac Jones started at QB for the Patriots and was replaced by Bailey Zappe, both could not get anything going.

The Giants will face the Green Bay Packers (5-6) in Week 14.

Jets QB, No Help, Fall to Dolphins

The New York Jets have moved on from QB Zach Wilson, so Tim Boyle got the start in Week 12 against the Miami Dolphins.
The result was an offensive nightmare, with the Dolphins notching a 34-13 win.

The game looked like it would be ugly, and it met that expectation early. Miami’s offense leads the league in scoring and the Jets’ offense ranks 30th in points per game. But the Jets’ defense gave them a fighting chance when Brandin Echols picked off a pass from Tua Tagavailoa in the second quarter and put New York on the board.

That momentum didn’t last long. With no time remaining in the half, the Dolphins answered with a demoralizing 99-yard touchdown. Safety Jevon Holland intercepted Boyle’s Hail Mary attempt and ran it all the way to the house.
The second half wasn’t much better for the Jets, who at least got an offensive touchdown, but otherwise were agonizing on their way to a fourth straight loss.
