Jaguars Overwhelm Jets in 48-20 Rout

On a breezy and balmy day in Jacksonville, Florida, the New York Jets lost to the Jacksonville Jaguars, 48 – 20, for their 11th loss of the season.

The Jaguars may or may not ever earn respect. What they’re doing in the meantime is winning – and doing so in increasingly impressive fashion, with a quarterback playing the same way.

Quarterback Trevor Lawrence passed for career-high 5 touchdowns and ran for another as the surging, AFC South-leading Jaguars turned in yet another one-sided late-season victory in front of 60,815 at EverBank Stadium Sunday afternoon.

The Jets lost ugly to the Jags – further cementing their spot as one of the worst teams in the NFL. The Jets also further solidified their draft position, which is now looking like it could be in the top five.
The Jets drop to 3-11 on the season. Now the Jets prepare to go on the road to face the New Orleans Saints next week.

Giants Fall to Commanders

Jacory Croskey-Merritt ran for a touchdown, fellow rookie Jaylin Lane returned a punt 63 yards to the end zone and the Washington Commanders ended their season-derailing skid at eight games by beating the similarly woeful New York Giants 29-21 on Sunday.
The only NFL game this week with no playoff implications has a far bigger bearing on draft positioning. The Giants (2-12) lost their eighth in a row, moving a step closer to the top pick, a last-place finish in the NFC East and potentially front-office changes, with a coaching search already coming.

Jayden Daniels’ didn’t play Sunday after aggravating a left elbow injury, so it was Marcus Mariota who quarterbacked the Commanders to their first victory since Oct. 5.

Mariota connected with top receiver Terry McLaurin on a 51-yard catch-and-run TD early in the fourth quarter. That was one of only 10 passes Mariota completed on 19 attempts for 211 yards, with a fumble.

Giants QB Jaxson Dart had TD passes to Tyrone Tracy and Wan’Dale Robinson but also threw a costly interception and was incomplete on a fourth-and-goal attempt with 10 minutes left.
Tracy ran for the Giants’ first touchdown after falling behind 13-0, and his TD catch happened when they were down 22-7.

Pete Alonso Signs 5-year Deal With Baltimore Orioles

Pete Alonso has agreed to a five-year, $155 million deal with the Baltimore Orioles.

The contract comes a year after Alonso, 30, struggled to secure a long-term deal on the free-agent market. With the move, the Orioles finally have their big-name free agent.

Alonso fits in well with the Orioles. Alonso immediately gives the team a middle-of-the-order power bat capable of posting big numbers regardless of the ballpark. That should work out well in Baltimore, where righties have had a tough time hitting home runs since the team altered the wall in left field.

After failing to land the mega-deal he desired last offseason, Alonso signed a two-year, $54 million pact to return to the New York Mets. That deal contained an opt-out after the first year, allowing Alonso to test the free-agent waters again.

Miami Dolphins Beat New York Jets

On a cold and cloudy day in East Rutherford, New Jersey, the Jets lost to the Miami Dolphins, 34 – 10 for their 10th loss of the season.

The first half saw the Jets defense annihilated. The Dolphins moved the ball at will early in the game as they scored touchdowns on each of their first three possessions.

Isaiah Williams briefly gave the Jets hope with a 78 yard punt return to cut the Dolphins lead to 21 – 7. It was the lone bright spot for the Jets.

Jets QB Tyrod Taylor left the game with an injury, replaced under center by undrafted rookie Brady Cook.
The Dolphins took over and Jaylen Wright led a long, run-dominated, clock chewing drive. With a little more than six minutes remaining in the game the Dolphins put it away. At 31 – 10, the rest of the game was garbage time.

Old friend Zach Wilson came on in mop up duty for the Dolphins. It was his first appearance in an NFL game since he left the Jets. Wilson led a late field goal drive to add insult to injury and bring the final score to 34 – 10.
The Jets drop to 3-10 on the season. Now the Jets prepare to go on the road to face the Jacksonville Jaguars next week.

Broadway Strike Averted As Musicians Reach Deal

Local 802 Broadway musicians were thrilled to announce that they reached an agreement with the Broadway League that will avert a strike.

A potential strike that threatened to halt many Broadway musicals has been averted after the musicians’ union reached an agreement with the Broadway League. The American Federation of Musicians Local 802 and the Broadway League, a trade association for producers and theater owners, finalized the deal after an 18-hour bargaining session aided by a mediator. The agreement includes wage increases and enhanced contributions to the health fund, ensuring access to healthcare for musicians.

The agreement comes just days after the Broadway League reached a separate tentative contract with the Actors’ Equity Association, the union representing performers and stage managers. The actors’ union’s deal includes a 3 percent salary increase each year over a three-year period, along with increased contributions to their health fund. -
Classic Black and White Cookies From Oreo

Oreo’s latest new flavor announcement might sound an awful lot like cultural appropriation to Big Apple ears, but NYC’s treasured, classic bakeries will be competing with — wait for it — Oreo Black & White Cookies.
A staple in local German and then Jewish neighborhoods for well over a century and famously interpreted as a call to racial harmony on the hit sitcom “Seinfeld,” the actual black and white is a half-moon of angel food cake topped with white fondant and chocolate icing, still consumed as frequently in some quarters as when it made its debut in Yorkville, back in 1902 at the long-gone Glaser’s Bake Shop.
And the packaged Oreo version, soon to be stacked high at local supermarkets? Look for a split of chocolate and classic, vanilla-flavored creme, sandwiched between two Golden Oreos.
If that’s not sounding nearly so appetizing as the real thing, fortunately for Gotham-based sweet tooths the real deal is still to be found just down the block.

Giants Fall to Patriots 33-15

The New England Patriots beat the New York Giants 33-15 on Monday Night Football. It was the Patriots 10th consecutive winning game, moving their NFL-best record to 11-2. The Giants are now 2-11.

The Patriots outgained the Giants 395 to 239, with Drake Maye continuing to make an MVP case. He went 24-of-31 for 282 yards and two touchdowns.

Maye completed passes to eight different receivers, with Hunter Henry catching four for 73. Kyle Williams had a 33-yard touchdown reception, and Kayshon Boutte scored on a 3-yard catch.

The Patriots dominated in all three phases, but three miscues by the Giants special teams allowed New England to run away with it.

In nine possessions, the Giants had four punts and turned it over on downs three times. Jaxson Dart was 17-of-24 for 139 yards and a touchdown. Devin Singletary had 12 carries for 68 yards and a touchdown, and Darius Slayton caught two passes for 41 yards and a touchdown.

Nick Folk’s 56-yard Field Goal on Final Play Lifts Jets Over Falcons

Nick Folk lined a 56-yard field goal through a heavy mist as time expired to lead the New York Jets to a 27-24 victory over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.

In a game between two struggling teams that was anything but pretty, Folk’s kick was also far from it. But in tough conditions, the 41-year-old got just enough on the football and was mobbed at midfield by his teammates as the Jets fans in a drenched and half-empty MetLife Stadium went wild.

Tyrod Taylor went 19 of 33 for 172 yards and a touchdown pass and also ran for a score in his second start for the benched Justin Fields as the Jets (3-9) snapped a two-game skid. Adonai Mitchell had eight receptions for 102 yards and a TD, and Breece Hall ran for 68 yards and a score.

After the defense held Kirk Cousins and the Falcons to a three-and-out, the Jets got the ball back at their 43 with 35 seconds left. Taylor hit Mitchell on the drive to put Folk in position for his winner.
Cousins went 21 of 33 for 234 yards and a touchdown and Bijan Robinson ran for 142 yards and a score and caught five passes for 51 yards for the Falcons (4-8), who lost for the sixth time in seven games.

Lions Rally, Beat Giants in Overtime

The Detroit Lions defeated the New York Giants 34-27 in Overtime at Ford Field on Sunday. Week 12 was supposed to be easy for the Lions facing NFC’s last-place team Giants, but it wasn’t.

What was set as a double-digit game by the oddsmakers in favor of the Lions turned into a nail-biting, comeback, overtime win for Detroit in front of a relieved crowd. Jahmyr Gibbs raced 69 yards up the middle for a touchdown on the first play of overtime to give the Lions a 34-27 lead.

The Giants had a chance to answer, but Aidan Hutchinson sacked Jameis Winston on fourth down to end the game.
It was not a pretty victory, and for most of the game, New York was sharper than the host Lions, racing out to a 17-7 lead.

The Lions showed more energy and urgency in the second half. Gibbs scorched the Giants defense for 219 rushing yards on just 15 carries, punctuated with the game-winner.

The game featured over 1,000 combined yards of offense: 517 from New York and 494 from Detroit.
The Lions improve to 7-4. The loss drops the Giants to 2-10 and makes New York the first team officially eliminated from the postseason.
