  • Houston Astros Head to the World Series

Houston Astros Head to the World Series

For the fourth time in the last six years, the Houston Astros are American League champions. Sunday night the Astros finished their authoritative ALCS sweep of the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium (HOU 6, NYY 5). It is the third time in the last six years and the fourth time in the last eight years the Astros have eliminated the Yankees in the postseason.

The Astros were unable to stifle the Yankees’ offense like Games 1-3, and instead had to rally from early 3-0 deficit in Game 4. Starter Lance McCullers Jr. bent but did not entirely break, and the Astros hung around long enough until they could capitalize on another defensive miscue by the Yankees. Houston outscored the Yankees 18-9 in the four games.

The Philadelphia Phillies dispatched the San Diego Padres in Game 5 of the NLCS earlier Sunday, so the World Series matchup is set. It’s Astros vs. Phillies.

New York Jets Beat Denver Broncos 16-9

The red-hot New York Jets defeated the Denver Broncos 16-9 at Empower Field at Mile High on Sunday, improving to 5-2 with their fourth straight victory. The Broncos dropped their fourth straight game and fall to 2-5.

Both offenses started off slowly, but the Jets’ Breece Hall ended that with a 62-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, but Hall would later go down with a knee injury and was lost for the remainder of the game. The Jets reportedly suspect an ACL injury.

The Broncos started Brett Rypien at quarterback with Russell Wilson injured. He led a long drive that ended in a two-yard score from Latavius Murray, but  a missed extra point.

The Broncos made a 44-yard field goal to take a 9-7 lead in the second quarter. The Jets later hit three fields goal of their own and the Jets defense shut down the Broncos to seal the win.

A fourth-down stop with less than a minute left in the game made the Jets’ victory official.

  • Yankees Beat Guardians

    Yankees Beat Guardians

The Yankees have kept their hopes for a World Series alive, beating the Cleveland Guardians 5 to 1 in Game 5 of the American League Division Series.

Gerrit Cole is undeniably the ace for the Yankees, and he did exactly what he’s supposed to in this division series. Cole may not have been the absolute best starter for New York this season, but he is their most talented, and the one they will always lean on when he’s needed the most. They needed the world from Cole in the ALDS, and he delivered.

Giants Comeback to Top Ravens 24-20

The New York Giants continued their incredible run to start the season in Week 6, as they notched a comeback 24-20 victory over Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens.

Down 20-10 in the fourth quarter, the Giants scored 14 unanswered points to move ahead in crunch time. An interception set up the game-winning touchdown, and then rookie Kayvon Thibodeaux stripped Jackson on what could have been Baltimore’s game-winning possession.

Daniel Jones completed 19 of 27 passes for 173 yards and two touchdowns, one that went to rookie wideout Wan’Dale Robinson, and the other to rookie tight end Daniel Bellinger. Saquon Barkley didn’t dominate all game, but finished rushing for 83 yards and one touchdown.

Jackson, on the other hand, completed 17 of 32 passes for 210 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Surprisingly, the offense was carried by running back Kenyan Drake, who rushed for 119 yards and one touchdown on 10 carries. Mark Andrews had a huge game, catching seven passes for 106 yards and one touchdown.

If you weren’t a believer in the New York Football Giants, it’s about time you convert over to the faith. Brian Daboll has this team playing confident football, and this defense loves to stand up in big moments.

Jets Dominate Aaron Rodgers and Packers

In the New York Jets’ sixth game of the 2022 season, on a cool and cloudy mid-autumn afternoon in Green Bay, Wisconsin, the New York Jets dominated Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers 27 – 10.

In the first half, neither team could get much going on offense. In the third quarter, the Jets put together a 74-yard drive highlighted by two Corey Davis catches that got the Jets down to the Packers 20-yard line. From there, Braxton Berrios ran it in for a 10-3 Jets lead.

Micheal Clemons blocked a Packers punt, and the Jets recovered and ran it in for a touchdown and a 17-3 lead late in the 3rd quarter.

The Packers answered with a 75-yard drive helped by two Jets penalties. A 25-yard Aaron Rodgers to Allen Lazard touchdown pass capped off the drive to bring the Packers within 7 points at 17-10 late in the 3rd quarter.

Early in the fourth quarter, Breece Hall broke free for a 34-yard touchdown run to give the Jets a 24-10 lead.

The Jets then put together an impressive drive to seal the victory. Running the ball on every play, the Jets chewed up clock and got the ball all the way down to the 1-yard line before settling for a short field goal and an all but insurmountable 27-10 lead with less than 3 minutes to play.

With the win the Jets go to 4-2 on the year and emphatically announce they have arrived.

Rams’ Aaron Donald Wants To Build His Legacy

Aaron Donald was linked to retirement rumors and speculation mounted that Sean McVay would jump to TV, but the Super Bowl-winning duo has returned to the Rams for another year. And one would not be there without the other.

“Not at all,” the Rams defensive tackle recently told NFL Network. “Not at all. If Sean ain’t here — I told Sean when he first got here. We came up with some things early and I first told him as long as he’s the head coach here, I want to continue to build my legacy with him.

“As long as he’s here and I got the ability to still play at a high level, I’m going to be here. When he’s gone and it’s all said and done, that probably will be when I’m hanging it up, too.”

Donald, who had 12.5 sacks last season, is certainly nowhere near falling off, and he’s expected to have another big year with the defending champion Rams.

“It’s always going to be motivation to do everything you can to get back,” the 31-year-old Donald said. “That’s the ultimate goal. That’s what you work for. When you’re grinding and out here working right now, that’s in the back of your mind. To try to do everything you can to have a great season and try to be the last team standing.”

The New York Jets moved to 3-2 with an impressive victory over the Miami Dolphins, 40-17. It was the Jets first win over an AFC East team in 13 tries.

Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was out this week with a concussion, and backup Teddy Bridgewater on the first play from scrimmage suffered an elbow injury along with a potential concussion and was ruled out for the remainder of the game due to the NFL’s new protocols. Seventh-round pick Skylar Thompson took over in his stead.

Jets QB Wilson completed 14-of-21 passes for 210 yards, and all five New York touchdowns came via the ground. Rookie running back Breece Hall was the star of the show, as he rushed for 97 yards and one touchdown. He also shined in the passing game, as he caught two passes for a total of 100 yards. The 3-2 Dolphins return to Miami next week, and will host the 4-1 Minnesota Vikings. As for the 3-2 Jets, they will hit the road to take on the 3-2 Green Bay Packers.
