  • Saquon Barkley Leads the Giants Over Packers

Saquon Barkley Leads the Giants Over Packers

The Giants have shown remarkable grit and determination this season. They took that fighting spirit overseas to London and showed an international audience — and the Packers, from Green Bay, Wisc. — that this is a new and quite improved Giants operation.

The Giants trailed 17-3 in the second quarter and 20-10 at halftime against Aaron Rodgers and it looked as if this would not be a fruitful  trip across the pond for coach Brian Daboll’s club. What transpired in the second half was stunning. The Giants on defense pitched a shutout. Daniel Jones gutted out yards and points. Saquon Barkley was forced out with a shoulder injury and returned.

Barkley scored the game-winning touchdown with 6:08 remaining and then turned the game over to their largely no-name defense. Rodgers moved the Packers to the Giants’ 7 yard line but on fourth down his pass was deflected up and into the air by blitzing safety Xavier McKinney. The ball fell harmlessly to the grass at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with 1:11 remaining and soon after the Giants secured an improbable 27-22 comeback victory.

Barkley ran 13 times for 70 yards. Jones, playing despite a sprained left ankle, was incredibly resilient. He completed 21 of 27 passes for 217 yards and ran 10 times for 37 yards. The Giants limited the damage and Rodgers was held scoreless in the second half.

New York Mets Are Eliminated By San Diego Padres!

One-hundred-and-one victories didn’t get the Mets a National League East title. And as it turned out, nor did it grant them immunity from an early exit to the postseason.

The cracks in the Mets that seemed most pronounced in the final weeks of the regular season conspired Sunday night, ending the team’s season with a 6-0 loss to the Padres in Game 3 of the wild-card series before a non-sellout of 39,241 at Citi Field.

Joe Musgrove manhandled the Mets with seven shutout innings. The Mets managed all of one hit and two base runners in the defeat. The franchise’s World Series title drought is extended to 36 seasons.

“This is a kick in the balls,” Max Scherzer said.

If Scherzer’s poor performance in Game 1, when he allowed seven earned runs, wasn’t enough, the Mets got a clunker to close the season from Chris Bassitt, who had control problems.

  • Bray Wyatt is Back in the WWE!

Bray Wyatt is Back in the WWE!

Bray Wyatt, who was surprisingly released by the company in July 2021, made good on the weeks of teases and returned to WWE at the conclusion of Extreme Rules pay-per-view at Wells Fargo Center on Saturday night.

After Matt Riddle submitted Seth Rollins in the Fight Pit main event,  the lights went out as he walked back to the stage with special referee Daniel Cormier as Michael Cole was signing off on the broadcast. Wyatt’s voice could then be heard sing his signature “He’s got the whole world in his hand” and spotlights hit people dressed as each of his former “FireFly Funhouse” character and Wyatt’s former Fiend character.

As the crowd started to buzz a door appeared and a video package of a ransacked FireFly Funhouse was shown as its theme music played. A TV in the room started to buzz and white-masked figure appeared on the screen. The door in the arena was then shown and opened to a blue light. The figure emerged holding Wyatt’s signature lantern, before removing the mask to revel himself to chants of “Holy s–t!”. Wyatt then blew out the lantern and a logo similar to the one he uses as his Twitter profile hit the screen just to further confirm who it was.

  • Giants WR Sterling Shepard Has Torn Left ACL, Season is Over

Giants WR Sterling Shepard Has Torn Left ACL, Season is Over

New York Giants wide receiver Sterling Shepard will miss the remainder of the 2022 NFL season due to a torn ACL, head coach Brian Daboll announced during a press conference.

Shepard went down with a non-contact injury during the final minutes of the 23-16 loss to the division-rival Dallas Cowboys and had initial tests after the game.

Shepard is coming off an Achilles injury that took place midway through the 2021 season and had recorded 13 receptions for 154 yards and a touchdown in three games during the 2022 season.

The former Oklahoma standout was selected by the Giants at No. 40 overall in the second-round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

Shepard currently has 362 career receptions for 4,038 yards and 22  touchdowns, as well as 23 rushing attempts for 180 yards and one touchdown during his seven-year NFL career.

    Giants Beat Bears 20-12

The New York Giants improved to 3-1 on Sunday with a ground-and-pound style 20-12 victory over the Chicago Bears (2-2).

The Giants saw both quarterbacks, Daniel Jones (ankle) and Tyrod Taylor (concussion), injured during the second half. That led to Saquon Barkley taking a few Wildcat snaps in the fourth quarter. Jones, obviously limited, played the final couple of series. He was limited to handing off or lining up as a wide receiver while Barkley played quarterback.

Leading 20-12, the Giants salted the game away when Gary Brightwell recovered a muffed punt by Velus Jones Jr. of the Bears at the Chicago 37-yard line with 2:01 to play. The Giants hung on despite Graham Gano missing a 37-yard field goal with :17 left.

The Giants ran for 262 yards. Saquon Barkley had 31 carries for 146 yards. That’s Barkley’s 14th career 100-yard rushing game. Jones had 6 carries for 68 yards, including touchdown runs of 21 and 8 yards. Jones passed for only 71 yards, completing 8 of 13.

  • Jets QB Zach Wilson Leads Jets Over Steelers

Jets QB Zach Wilson Leads Jets Over Steelers

The Jets beat the Steelers 24-20 at Acrisure Stadium, erasing a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit for their second win of the season and second win ever in this city.

It was far from a perfect performance from Zach Wilson in his season debut, but he delivered when the Jets needed him to in the fourth quarter.

Rookie running back Breece Hall scored the game-winning touchdown, a 2-yard plunge with 16 seconds left. It initially looked like Hall fumbled the ball, but a replay showed he crossed the goal line before losing it.

The touchdown capped an 11-play, 65-yard drive that started when Jets cornerback Michael Carter II intercepted Steelers rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett on a tipped pass at the Jets’ 35 with 3:34 left.

It felt like the Jets were dead when the Steelers took a 20-10 lead with 13:36 left in the game on Pickett’s second rushing touchdown. The Steelers replaced Mitch Trubisky with Pickett to start the second half and he gave the Steelers a jolt of energy.

Wilson completed 19 of 37 passes for 252 yards with one passing touchdown, one receiving touchdown and two interceptions.

  • Yankees’ Aaron Judge Blasts Home Run No. 61

Yankees’ Aaron Judge Blasts Home Run No. 61

On Wednesday night, New York Yankees star Aaron Judge finally notched home run No. 61, tying Roger Maris for the American League single-season record.

Judge launched the historic home run in the seventh inning off Toronto Blue Jays reliever Tim Mayza. With the game tied 3-3, and Judge facing a full count, he laced a two-run shot over the left field wall, putting the Yankees ahead and etching his name in the record books forever.

It took eight games, but it was certainly worth the wait.

Judge hit home run No. 60 over a week ago against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Between homer No. 60 and No. 61, Judge walked an astounding 27 times, including seven intentional passes.

  • Cowboys Over Giants 23-16

    Cowboys Over Giants 23-16

The New York Giants lost to the Dallas Cowboys on Monday night, 23-16.

New York (2-1) won its first two games off second-half scoring, but this week it was Dallas leaving the Giants in the dust in the fourth quarter.

Saquon Barkley’s 36-yard touchdown run in the third quarter broke a 6-6 tie, but the Cowboys (2-1) answered with two consecutive touchdown drives. Both of those scores were from the 1-yard line: a run from Ezekiel Elliott and a one-handed grab by CeeDee Lamb.

The Giants got the ball back on their own 9-yard line with 1:45 to play, but Daniel Jones threw his only interception of the game to seal New York’s fate.

The Cowboys have now won 10 of their past 11 games against the Giants.

Pass rush was the deciding factor. Daniel Jones was sacked six times — including three times by Demarcus Lawrence — and was pressured constantly. The Giants defense did not record any sacks.

  • Jets Fall to Bengals 27-12

    Jets Fall to Bengals 27-12

In the New York Jets third game of the 2022 season, on a cloudy early autumn afternoon in East Rutherford, New Jersey, the New York Jets lost to the Cincinnati Bengals 27 – 12.

In the first half it was all Bengals. The Jets pass rush put little pressure on Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow. With time to throw Burrow picked the Jets secondary apart, repeatedly hitting on deep passes to his star trio of wide receivers.

The Jets offense, on the other hand, was mostly stagnant. The Bengals pass rush kept Jets quarterback Joe Flacco under constant pressure, and Flacco did not respond well. He lost the ball on an interception and the Jets offense managed just a trio of field goals in a largely lifeless first half performance.

The second half consisted of more woe for the Jets. The only bright spot is that QB Zach Wilson should return next week.

  • Albert Pujols Joins Exclusive 700 Home Run Club

Albert Pujols Joins Exclusive 700 Home Run Club

St. Louis Cardinals star Albert Pujols has entered baseball’s most exclusive club, slugging the 700th home run of his storied career to join Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron and Barry Bonds as the only players to reach that milestone.

Pujols, 42, playing the final season of his storied career, clobbered No. 699 and No. 700 in back-to-back innings against his former team, the Los Angeles Dodgers, triggering a warm celebration that swept teammates, opponents and fans to their feet in tribute.

“This is like the Mount Rushmore of sluggers, so to reach that 700-home run mark, it’s remarkable,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said.

Pujols, a certain Hall of Famer, joins Aaron as the only two hitters in Major League Baseball to reach 3,000 hits and 700 homers.

He humbly accepted the showering of respect, sending a hug to the  fans in the stands but saying afterwards winning for his teammates has always been more important to him than reaching personal milestones.
